Protected Species Surveys
Bat SurveysMAB Environment & Ecology Ltd carry out bat surveys and licence applications for development projects in Yorkshire, Humber and the North East. Bat surveys range from simple presence / absence studies to complex European Protected Species licence applications with Method Statement and Mitigation Proposals. We have three surveyors with Natural England licences to survey for bats in all English Counties. We use a variety of technical equipment including time-expansion bat detectors with computer analysis software (Batsound), Anabat remote bat detectors, and environmental data-loggers. We also survey trees and have tree climbing certification.
Using the European Protected Species licence system, we have obtained many licences for development projects where disturbance or destruction of bat roosts is inevitable. In all cases, mitigation and compensation plans have successfully replaced lost habitat and reduced direct impact on bats to negligible levels.
Our bat surveys include major development projects such as Catterick Garrison Town Centre Redevelopment & Gaza Barracks and Catterick Garrison, RAF Menwith Hill, the Bishop of Ripon's Palace, Preston Hall. However, we also take on several hundreds smaller bat surveys each year.
MAB Environment & Ecology Ltd, by working in the North East and Yorkshire for many years, built up an indispensible knowledge of each Local Planning Authority's methodology and standards for wildlife surveying. We also have maintained good relationships with the local bat groups, the Bat Conservation Trust and Natural England.
